THE OSCARS 2024 – SHORT FILMS & ANIMATIONS NOMINEES screening at BUSTARD TOWN

Come and watch the world’s best short films and animations as selected by the Academy of Motions Pictures for the 2024 Academy Awards! This event will feature three 90 minute programs featuring the world’s best international short films alongside a selection of award-winning shorts by local filmmakers.

This SPECIAL SCREENING is presented in partnership with Wild North Comics as part of the WILD THINGS art exhibition and comic book launch. Bustard Town’s indoor venue will be transformed into an art house cinema for the event, with wood-fired pizza, drinks and popcorn available all day!

Fist Full of Films Festival is the Northern Territory’s longest running short film festival. Founded in 1999, Fist Full celebrates the best short films, animations and documentaries and screen arts by NT Filmmakers. Wild North Arts is a not-for-profit arts organisation dedicated to supporting new and emerging cross media art forms in the Northern Territory. Launching our flagship comic anthology Wild North Comics #1 in September 2021 as part of the Darwin Fringe Festival, we have launched multiple spin-off titles and graphic novel projects, art exhibitions and workshop programs.

“Perth-born novelist JJ DeCeglie makes his feature film debut with JUGULAR, and what a debut it is! Tense, claustrophobic and genuinely harrowing, JUGULAR follows one man’s nightmarish decent into the recesses of his own mind. Recesses from which there are no escape.”

JUGULAR is the debut feature film from producer/writer/director JJ DeCeglie. Shot guerrilla on the streets of Melbourne with a minimal budget and crew, the film went on to win Best Film, Director and Actor at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival 2013, and is now
being distributed by Video Archives, with a co-distribution deal also lined up with Monster Pictures.

Presented by the Film and Television Association of the NT (FATANT) at Darwin’s Browns Mart Theatre, the film will include a short introduction and Q&A with writer/director JJ Deceglie.

Want to make a low budget film? JUGULAR won best film, director and actor at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival and was made for less than most people spend on a short film. How did he do it? At this special masterclass, Director JJ DeCeglie will take aspiring filmmakers and experienced producers through the tricks and techniques used to make a low budget film, and make it well!

COST:
$100 WORKSHOP (includes free entry to screening).
$50 FATANT MEMBERS
